Digital rights are the extension of human rights in the digital environment, including the rights to privacy, the right to un-manipulated information, the right to freedom of expression, among many others. The same rights and responsibilities that we human beings have in the physical world must also be protected online.
As an organisation dedicated to the promotion of human rights education and democratic values, AHEAD supports the role of youth work to counter digital threats and to promote the re-appropriation of digital tools for the defense and protection of fundamental rights.

The training course “Digital Rights and Responsibilities in Youth Work” contributes ideas, examples and practical tools through which youth workers, educators and youth leaders develop competences (knowledge, tools and attitudes) to develop digital responsibilities and raise awareness to protect and defend digital rights.
The Training Course will support educators and youth workers in:
- Critically analyse the challenges to preserve fundamental rights in the digital environment and explore the violations of digital rights in the non-guvernamental and youth work sectors;
- Train youth work professionals with educational tools and skills to reflect on and question digital consumption and use practices working for a safe and respectful digital environment with respect to human rights.
- Exchange youth work practices to support the rights to privacy, data protection and freedom of expression by countering surveillance, censorship and manipulation in the digital environment.
The course on Digital Rights and Responsibilities is a starting point for learning more about digital threats and how to strengthen personal and organisational online security.

Participants don’t need to have previous technical expertise. The trainers’ team will guide them along the course through some of the important terms, concepts and techniques to become aware of and protect against digital threats.
The course is conceived in ways that require active participation and exchange between participants. It is based on participants’ experiences and builds on concrete actions for the future. The methodology of the training programme is based on the main principles of experiential learning cycle and non-formal education
