GREM / Remembrance

GREM project balance

The results of last year's GREM project have been published.

Project GREM: Game to Remember is a proactive response to the alarming rise of far-right and nationalist propaganda that seeks to distort modern history and diminish the significance of the Holocaust. These narratives often downplay the atrocities committed by the Nazi regime and its collaborators, infiltrating public and political discourse across Europe and enabling antisemitism and antigypsyism to creep into mainstream acceptance.

A group of five non-governmental organisations working with Jewish, Roma, and Sinti communities, youth, and professionals in the arts and education sectors has come together to develop and test an engaging tool for Holocaust remembrance rooted in gamification. The GREM team aims to honour and educate about the atrocities of the Holocaust by transforming existing research and personal testimonials into an innovative, experiential learning activity designed for classrooms: a detective mystery.

Drawing from real stories of Holocaust victims and survivors, the game leverages the concepts of LARP games and escape rooms to transform traditional history lessons into an immersive, interactive learning experience: a detective game built around solving a mystery.

The project's long-term goal is to raise awareness through gamified education, empowering communities to actively counter Holocaust distortion and resist the normalisation of false information.
