Mainstreaming Gender

Eurogender Eve

During all those days, in the Mainstreaming Gender Training, we have all seen how the sterotypes involved in our culture help to make the gender inequalities persist. One way of sharing this different cultural facts, was organizing an Eurogender Evening, where each group showed to the others some traditional dances, music, poems, food and drinks!

From Romania, we could get to know some traditional singers, play a curious instrument and wear a traditional hat that men wear. From Armenia, we got to learn an ancient dance that people use to recreate to fight alltoguether against devil, it was the only dance that in the past men and women could dance toguether. From Turkey, we got to learn some typical movements when dancing, but the most surprising was a cercle that men use to do around women when throwing money to them to show wealth. From Estonia, we listened a song that has been considereted the best song of the year, called Good man down, from the group Ewert and the two dragons. It was a really nice song but it showed a woman as a "femme fatal" responsible of a man heartbroken. From Catalonia and Aragó, we practiced a dance called Sardanes, thinking that it was a good example of dances whithout gender discrimination, and represented a human castle seeing the different positions that men and women have in it. From Belarus, we discovered some facts related to gender inequality. The most surprising one was that there are some professions where women are not allow to work by law (ex. bus driver). Finally, from Italy, we got to listen a poem from Dante where he talks about the women he loves.
